Depot stones – Release tablets

Another method of hardness stabilization is possible by the so-called depot stones.
Depot stones /or release tablets are a mixture of solid hardness stabilizer, which are pressed together with a suitable carrier to form a shaped body. As moldings are suitable blocks, slabs and also tablets (for small amounts of water and high pH values). Then these shapes are laid in the drainage system where they come in contact with the resulting mountain water. Here, the active drug substance causes the stones and thus prevents the formation of deposits on the subsequent flow path.

Since 1995, our company has been trying, in cooperation with our chemist Dr. F. Haiber, to develop Depot stones, which reach all requirements which are necessary for the practical use. Thus it was necessary to overcome various hurdles.
The rate of dissolution ot the active ingredient of the stones must be not too high and not too low When fully stored under water, the Depot stone should release active substance over 1 – 2 years.

  • The active substances must be environmentally friendly and biologically degradable.
  • The additives must also be environmentally friendly and biologically degradable.
  • The preparation should be mechanically possible (process in the extruder).
  • The price must be competitive with the variant “liquid dosage”.
  • The tiles must be stored and shall in no case hygroscopic properties.

The right mix

As the world’s first company we have managed to find a suitable mix.

  • The first generation of our depot stones consisted of polycarboxylic acids and showed a good effect.
  • The second generation consists of polysuccinimide. This improved the dissolution behavior and the effect.
  • The third generation consists of fruit acids and shows the best behavior at elevated pH values.

All of these stones were created by our company and for the first time applied for a patent. Copycat products since 2003 to find on the market, but at much higher prices and without the years of acquired know-how of the inventor company.

The preferred application of the tabs are the seepage water drain in new construction projects. Just in time for the installation of the seepage water drain and the sealing film, the mountain water comes into increased contact with cementitious materials to the environment. As a result, calcium deposits grow up caused by the pH increase of mountain water and the new dariange system beginns to clog. In the seepage water drain the conventional cleaning is not possible and in many cases, the resulting mountain water continuously reduced as a result of these blockages. After that, it’s only a matter of time until damages caused.

To prevent this type of constipation, during the construction period, the use of these tabs is very helpfull. Once the the stones are dissolved, it is not possible to replace them and therefore it makes sense to use these tabs in combination with the below-described recovery system.
